Today was a "road trip" day. Using Rick Steves as our guide we headed NW from Beaune on the less-traveled roads to a few towns with specific things to see. Our first stop was Chateauneuf-en-Auxois where there is a large chateau that looks more like a castle. We paid a few euros to be able to walk around and checked out a few of the rooms.
Along the route we drove next to the Burgundy canal. We saw a few boats and a few bike riders using the path along the canal. We then moved on to an area known as Alesia where the Romans defeated the Galls in 52BC. And up in the hill town of Alise Ste-Reine is the site of an old Roman ruins.
We then drove to the Abbey of Fontenay. A very beautiful setting and a well preserved abbey.
Our last stop was in Semur-en-Auxois. Very busy town with very little to see. We were there just a short time.
