Today we had arranged to go on a hike with a local owner of a B&B who I had met and communicated with over the past few years on a travel site. He had been "hosting" walks in the local area and had agreed to take us on a hike in an area about 45 minutes from here in the Alpes de Hautes Provence. So we put together a picnic lunch (bread, cheese, meat and fruit) and headed out about 11:30pm. When we arrived at our destination we were treated to an unexpected spectacular 360 degree view which included Mont Ventoux, Lore Mountain, the mountains toward the Mediterranean and the French Alps. We have never been to a point that had such an incredible view in a full circle - one of our Top 10 hikes ever. Pictures and words do not do it justice.
At the summit we met a group of folks from the Bordeaux region who are vacationing in Provence and staying as pensioners at a local abbey. One of the gentlemen had lived and worked in Medford.
Today's hike was 6.24 miles - barely broke a sweat!
On the way home we visited Banon which has the largest book store in France and another small village as well.
On the way home we stopped at L'Clerc and bought things for dinner - chicken, rice, bread and fruit for a fruit salad.
It was a really great day. Tomorrow we have some friends we met two years ago in Bonnieux who are from Belgium joining us for a BBQ. They are vacationing in Bonnieux this year at the same apartment complex we stayed in on our last trip. We will be going to the market in the morning to get fresh seafood and items for a salad.
So it is 10:30pm on Monday and I am finally caught up. Hope you are enjoying the blog. More to come later this week.
